And then they came for me. Reinventing myself again

Editor note: I wrote this back on June 24.  I've had to keep from publishing it do to contractual obligations.  Those expire today, so here it is.

In a thank you letter to my lacrosse team for their gifts and kind words of praise for another fun season, I wrote, "One very small word of advice for the summer and off-season: find something to do.   Don't let lacrosse be your only sport - sure it's great, but don't burn out or get nipped by repetitive injuries.  This world has so many wonderful things to do - seek them out."

It's that last line I'd like to focus on.  I am going to do some seeking.  As of July 15th, I'll no longer work for my current employer.

And the best part?  I am totally OK with this.

Here's how my yesterday started:

  1. 8:01 email from CEO: "I would like to review some items with you this morning at 11."
  2. 9:15, instant message from me to my brother Rob:  "I don't like working at a place where if the boss emails "I want to go over a few things" doesn't strike fear in me that I am getting canned"
  3. 11:01 email from CEO while on phone, "Termination letter".
So, that's that.  They blind-sided my boss last month and since then I've been looking for a job thinking this day wouldn't be too far off.  So, I've got a head start.

Of course, that brings us back to "what do you want to be when you grow up?"  Funny, I just asked my Aunt Susan, who's a few years my elder, that same question this week.  She's not sure yet (driving a Cherry Picker last I heard) and neither am I.

So, it's good, really good.  The company had all non-salary people cut back to 4 days.   I am certain that this a good time to skadattle.  This job  has lasted a lot longer than I thought and allowed me to stay home while my kids needed someone at the house.  Ironically, that ended yesterday (last day of school) with the news my job is being terminated.

So what's next?  What isn't?  That's the way I am looking at it and already scored a freelance web job and a phone interview with another company here in CT.  The possibilities are exciting to me, honest.

It's all good.

Editor note 2, same vibe, things are going well.  I went to a 2nd interview yesterday and it went very well.  I'll keep you all in the loop as we go forward but know it's all going to work out.  Promise.

Ian goes Punk

It, of course is my fault. You could say that about most anything. But this, this is pure genius. Yesterday, he and I were headed to get haircuts. He says, "what kind of haircut are you getting Daddy?". I give my stock answer, "mohawk". He giggles and says, "me too, we'll be twins." He is smiling ear to ear. Next comes the part where I carefully extract myself from getting said mohawk. He says, "i don't care I am getting a mohawk." I saw ok thinking Mel will never allow. She says ok.

Five minute update

Sorry, 5 is all you get today...ok at least for now. Here are the top stories from the past week: Thanksgiving. What happens when you don't see family and don't eat Turkey? Not so bad, sorry family. We had a blast watching the parade in NYC, it was a beautiful warm day. The kids and mostly Mel enjoyed the floats and balloons. We'll be back next year. You can see a slide show of the images mel took, far too many up to the right -----> Best quote at a concert, Best thing to happen to my brother in front of me, "Sir, would you buy me a beer?" -underage girl at State Radio Concert. Probably the last 18 and older show we go to. Save the security team, we were the oldest folks there... And FYI, Rob didn't buy her one, what a good guy. Then we talked about if we'll still come to these concerts if Reagan happens to go to the same one... We decided she isn't leaving the house watching some young girl crowd surf... Prickly Pear is out of the water....
