50 miles. Fog thicker than the proverbial pea soup. Wind right on the nose. A dad to poke fun at and a brother too willing to help.
It turns out these are the ingredient list for a fun if not altogether traumatizing on so many levels trip from where we bought the boat to her new home port.
We left Saturday morning in fog so thick, we couldn't see more than 50 yards. This presented some challenges in a narrow, unfamiliar channel. Add to that the "buuuuhhhhhhrrrrrnnnnn" of the giant ferry boat that passed us in the channel.
Soon after getting out into the sound, we set sails, killed the engine and enjoyed a short lived fun sail. The wind soon dropped then fluttered around making it impossible to sail (even for me). So we fired the engine back up and 10 hours later, got back home.
It was a great trip full of interesting takes on those who photograph rabbits on islands (don't ask) naps for those not on watch and a fun trip with a couple of guys that I think the world of. Having them took away a lot of my nervousness and created some fantastic arguments over rather simple things. Family is like nothing else.
The boat did very well. I am immensely pleased at the way she handled, sailed and felt at sea. As they say, this is the start of a beautiful friendship, me and this boat.
enjoy these fine images...
