Melon vs. the Dishwasher

Fact: Dishwashers are stupid.
Fact: Dishwashers bust more than washing machines for some stupid reason.
Fact: My diswasher is doing some stupid game where it flashes a green light that it believes is funny.
Fact: It is not funny.

I am at the brink of my frustration limits. ARRGGGHHHH!!!! Back as a wide-eyed homeowner five years ago, I installed our brand-nicky-new dishwasher. It cost a small fortune but was designed with enough features and beep-bop bells and whistles to make R2D2 yell cat calls at it.

But now, the stupid thing just sits there, mocking me. I keeps me up at night with the green LED On, Off, On, Off. I can almost hear the electronics clicking on and off.

So, now we are hand washing. And by "we" I mean Melissa. Hey, I cook.

So my choices: Pay Mr. Sears $109 to come out and tell me:
(A) Yep, the Heater or Panel is busted
(B) Funny thing, Mr. Sears doesn't have that ($100) part, gonna have to order it.
(C) means another $109 trip out to come and install.

So if you are good at math, like me, you know that a totally new dishwasher can be had for $318 and that means I don't even have to clean the old one like I've been meaning to. And no, that didn't cause the problemo.

My Dad would say fix it. Actually he did say fix it when I described the issue. Of course, my follow up question, "have you ever fixed a dishwasher?" elicited a "no" response. It seems like such a big thing to go belly up in five years.

Mr. SalesGuy (probably not his real name) says they are built to last 7 to 10 years. Again, it seems like a big item to replace that often. I mean, the darn thing is a glorified sprinkler in a box.

So, the idea of parting with $300 just isn't doing it for me and I will either light fire to house or myself if I start in on the electronics. (I am a software guy, not hardware so much).

Personally, I wish the Jawas would drop bye, I'd sell it to them. [in Star Wars the Jawas were the Sanford and Son of Tatooine, the planet where...aww skip it.]

todays survey

Since you all have done so well with the past two surveys I've taken ( another shirt slogan for Dad and do you get full eating salad or just bored ), here is another: If you eat, say, a bag full of fortune cookies - and I am not saying I have - do they all come true or just a first/last rule? Do they all negate if you eat more than one? Anyone? Bueller?

And now we are One!!!!

Who would have thought: you would keep reading after day 3? I would keep writing after day 2? (see http://robertwmason.blogspot.com/ for reference) that you would get anything out of this? that I would get anything out of this? that I would make 250 posts into this thing..? And "get" I did. Last month, I signed my first contract for a writing position (in my free time) with a Rhode Island magazine. I used many excerpts from my blog as samples and they dug it, enough to want to pay me. I am very excited about that. A big thank you to all of you that keep reading that misadventures of my family, friends and I. The journey thus far has been fun and giving you a bird-eye view into our lives is weirdly fun. At first it was like walking around naked, now I am a full fledged nudist; so to speak. In looking back over the first year, I live like a king. Sometimes all it takes is a bit of reflection to see how good you've got it. Usually this hits me on business trips and ...

How I'll probably die

My new thing has gotten me running, yes running, the past week without complaint and without watching the clock. Unfortunately, the high-risk fringe sport will probably have Ian find me at the end of the treadmill runway, twisted, with a guitar slung from my neck. What is it you ask? Some kind of Mariachi Marathon? Close. Running while playing Guitar Hero is the greatest thing since running with my buddy Jeff. Come to think of it, that really was just running with someone calling you, "fatty" the whole time, but I digress. Running while jamming on guitar trying desperately to keep up with great hits like "American Women" and the surprisingly fitting, "Band on the run". See what I did there? Anyhow, it is freaking amazing. No longer are my eyes glued to the maddening clock. No longer am looking at data (which I seem to hate when it is counting my exercise), I am playing a game. I am a Rock God when I run. Now, I know what you are thinking. Being a...
