"Check a Bantha" ????

In between songs last night, the new lead singer of INXS said, "check a bantha". Of course, Mel didn't hear that. She heard something that totally makes sense and sounded nothing like "check a bantha". A bantha, if I am not mistaken is what the sandpeople rode around on... (Star Wars reference)

For some reason (even when my ears have not been blasted out by some crappy opening band- though Mel says they were not that bad), I have trouble making out low pitch men mumbling. Not men that pitch a baseball in the dirt, ones that talk in low frequency. Always have, and in a crowded place it is worse. I end up hearing something nothing like that which was intended. I nod a lot and say, "oh yeah, for sure" at what looks like appropriate places.

This was Mel's Valentine present, the concert not my "check a Bantha". She apparently has a love for this band as she got up and danced. Danced well mind you. Not like me. I dance like Roj from "What's Happening" doing the robot.

So, how was the concert/reality TV show? Sold out. Not bad. Marty and the Lovehammers were ok. Loud. Too loud. I can hear it, "you are getting old." Maybe so, but that doesn't change their is a limit on decibels needed to make your ears bleed that does not vary inversely with age.

I kind of surprised Mel with this. She was looking at tickets on Ebay (sadly, the Help Desk Coordinator only made her first ebay purchase a month ago and was amazed by the transaction). I got tickets for this show for $7.50 more than face value for amazingly good seats. (orders now being accepted for "Melon's Guide to Ebay" published by Bantha Books). Actually, I just use www.auctionsniper.com. You put in the auction number and how much you want to pay. Then at the last 5 seconds, it bids your amount. Usually works. They get a small cut of the action...

Anyhow, the new singer, JD did well finding middle ground from the deceased old singer and his own unique style. He moved like a lead singer should. The new songs were less than spectacular compared to the hey-day of INXS, but that is just my opinion. Mel thought they were pretty good (INXS does Reggae? what's up with that???)

So with that, I bid you "check a bantha". Which means "have a good weekend" for those of you not well versed in the younger, hipper slang. Like me.

todays survey

Since you all have done so well with the past two surveys I've taken ( another shirt slogan for Dad and do you get full eating salad or just bored ), here is another: If you eat, say, a bag full of fortune cookies - and I am not saying I have - do they all come true or just a first/last rule? Do they all negate if you eat more than one? Anyone? Bueller?

And now we are One!!!!

Who would have thought: you would keep reading after day 3? I would keep writing after day 2? (see http://robertwmason.blogspot.com/ for reference) that you would get anything out of this? that I would get anything out of this? that I would make 250 posts into this thing..? And "get" I did. Last month, I signed my first contract for a writing position (in my free time) with a Rhode Island magazine. I used many excerpts from my blog as samples and they dug it, enough to want to pay me. I am very excited about that. A big thank you to all of you that keep reading that misadventures of my family, friends and I. The journey thus far has been fun and giving you a bird-eye view into our lives is weirdly fun. At first it was like walking around naked, now I am a full fledged nudist; so to speak. In looking back over the first year, I live like a king. Sometimes all it takes is a bit of reflection to see how good you've got it. Usually this hits me on business trips and ...

How I'll probably die

My new thing has gotten me running, yes running, the past week without complaint and without watching the clock. Unfortunately, the high-risk fringe sport will probably have Ian find me at the end of the treadmill runway, twisted, with a guitar slung from my neck. What is it you ask? Some kind of Mariachi Marathon? Close. Running while playing Guitar Hero is the greatest thing since running with my buddy Jeff. Come to think of it, that really was just running with someone calling you, "fatty" the whole time, but I digress. Running while jamming on guitar trying desperately to keep up with great hits like "American Women" and the surprisingly fitting, "Band on the run". See what I did there? Anyhow, it is freaking amazing. No longer are my eyes glued to the maddening clock. No longer am looking at data (which I seem to hate when it is counting my exercise), I am playing a game. I am a Rock God when I run. Now, I know what you are thinking. Being a...
